Q. What is the RealShield™ made of?
A. The RealShield™ is made from the highest quality, optically clear LEXAN™ Material. This is not to be confused with any PET, PETG, or APET. None of these other materials are as optically clear.
Q. Is the RealShield™ chemical-proof?
A. Yes. The RealShield™ is made from LEXAN™ (the trade name for premium polycarbonate) which is very chemical resistant. Read more at https://www.calpaclab.com/polycarbonate-chemical-compatibility-chart/
Q. Can I reapply RealShield™ to adjust it on my hat or install it on a different hat?
A. Yes. We use a 3M™ adhesive that holds tight and leaves no adhesive residue on your hat but can be removed and re-applied over 40 times. Watch our install video:
Q. My RealShield™ arrived and looks hazy.
A. The RealShield™ is shipped with a protective removable liner on the front side. Simply scratch the corner and peel off the liner to expose your optically clear RealShield™
Q. How do I clean my RealShield™?
A. This product is easily cleaned with soap and water, or lens cleaning wipes. Make sure to use a soft lint-free cloth. Do not use paper towels as they may scratch.
Q. The product that you make is the shield only, correct?
A. Yes, we only provide the shield. Simply attached the RealShield™ to your favorite hat or visor.
Q. Once it is applied, can it be removed and reapplied to a different head covering?
A. The 3M™ adhesive we use allows the RealShield™ to be removed or repositioned on a hat and reapplied over and over. Depending on the hat fabric, up to 40 times. All without damage or leaving residue on your hat. We are also adding additional adhesive strips to the 4 pack so that you may replace them if they become damaged. RealShield™ easily attaches to most headgear including visors, ballcaps, sunhats, and industrial headgear (bump hats, hardhats). The shield can also be easily removed and reattached to a different head covering.
Q. Do you have a discount for a large volume?
A. Yes, bulk pricing is available. Please contact us at info@realshield.com for additional details.
Q. Can I wear glasses under the RealShield™?
A. Yes- you can wear either sunglasses or prescription glasses with RealShield™
Q. What is the overall size of the RealShield™?
A. The adult size RealShield™ is approximately 13.5” wide at the mounting tabs and 7.5” tall from the top of the brim strap to the chin. The youth size is approximately 10” wide and 6” tall. The youth size fits youth size caps only and is recommended for children who wear a youth size hat and ages 3 to 10 years old.
Q. What is the SPF of the RealShield™?
A. There is no SPF correlation for plastics. But polycarbonate (LEXAN), the material we make RealShield™ with, blocks some of the harmful UVA & UVB rays but is not a substitute for a good SPF sunscreen.
Q. What do you use to ship the RealShield™?
A. We ship at no extra charge by USPS (Post Office). On request, we can also ship by UPS or FedEx.
Q. Does the RealShield™ easily fog up?
A. Because the RealShield™ is a non-restrictive face covering, has a vent at the top under the brim of the hat and airflow from the sides, it does not fog up. If you do notice any fogging in colder air, it dissipates very quickly. The RealShield™ can also be easily adjusted away from your mouth and nose to create more space and ventilation.
Q. Are your shields reusable or are they considered disposable?
A. Because we use premium 15 mil thick LEXAN, the RealShield™ is cleanable with alcohol wipes, Windex and a soft cloth or lens wipes for cleaning eye glasses. It can also be removed from a hat, cleaned and then reinstalled on another hat. So the answer to your question is that the RealShield™ is definitely reusable.
Q. Can I wear RealShield™ on an airplane instead of a face mask?
A. The FAA does not and will not mandate face masks/coverings. It is solely up to each airline to set their policy. Major airlines including Alaska, Allegiant, American, Delta, Frontier, Hawaiian, Jetblue, Spirit, Southwest, and United all require passengers to wear a face covering for which the Realshield™ would qualify.
Q. Where is the RealShield™ manufactured?
A. The RealShield™ is manufactured in both Nevada and Illinois. The raw Lexan™ material used for our shield is manufactured in Indiana. We are very proud that our entire supply chain is made in the USA.
Q. Does the RealShield™ have a UV coating?
A. The RealShield™ does not have a UV coating but the LEXAN™ material (polycarbonate) used does block/absorb 99% of the harmful UVA and UVB rays. Here is a link to spectrum of the RealShield™ showing it blocks all of the harmful rays below 380nm: http://64.50.176.246/tools/transmittance.php
Q. Is the RealShield™ ANSI certified for eye and face protection?
A. Yes. The adult size RealShield™ is ANSI Z-87.1-2020 certified for eye and face protection and is ANSI Z-87.1-2020 (D3) certified for eye and face splash protection. Click here to download the test results.
Q. Do you have a technical data or spec sheet on the RealShield™?
A. Yes, click here to download our data sheet.
Q. Will a face shield protect you from Coronavirus?
A. Yes. A 2014 study showed that when tested against an influenza-infused aerosol from a distance of 18 inches away, a face shield reduced exposure by 96% during the period immediately after a cough. The face shield also reduced the surface contamination of a respirator by 97%. See more from the Cleveland Clinic by clicking here.
Q. I work in a harsh environment and my hat gets sweaty and dirty. How can I attached my RealShield™ to my work hat so it will not come off?
A. The Realshield™ can be stapled to the outer headband of your hat using the following instructions:
- 1) With the RealShield™ adhered in the correct location. Unfold the inner layer of the headband down.
- 2) Use a common stapler and staple the tab to the outer headband as shown. Only one staple per side is required.
- 3) Fold back the headband to cover the staple on the inside of your hat.
- 4) Use a staple remover if you want to remove the RealShield™.
